The prostate is part of a man’s sex organ which is the size of a walnut and surrounds the urethra. Prostate problems are on the rise due to ignorance and unhealthy lifestyle and is a major concern for men over 40.Small prostate dysfunction can lead prostatitis, enlarged prostate (BPH) and even prostate cancer. But following the simple tips given below can keep your prostate healthy and minimize the chance of developing prostate cancer.
Tips to keep your prostate healthy
- Have a healthy diet: Your diet should consist of foods that contain a lot of lean protein and this can be found in fish and chicken. Foods that are high in fats should be avoided as it causes the body to produce less antioxidant which is necessary to keep a healthy prostate. Switch to vegetables and antioxidant rich foods like cranberries and blueberries instead of fried items. Tomato intake is encouraged as it increases the production of antioxidants.
- Exercise: Performing a physical activity or exercising for at least 30 minutes can cut down the chances of developing prostate problems by 10 to 30 percent. Prostate cancer is caused by uncontrolled hormone levels and physical activities can help stabilize it.
- Kegel exercises: Improve your blood flow to your prostate and urogenital organs by doing Kegel exercise work outs at least 5 to 6 times a day. Kegel exercise is performed by pulling up the muscles around the scrotum area and then releasing it.
- Follow regular check-ups: Go for screening test at least once a year if you are over the age of 40 as the earlier you begin screening the better the chance of fighting the disease.
Herbal supplements can also be taken to take care of your prostate.
